There is a looming shortage of commercial pilots and a group of Coachella Valley aviators wants to change this anticipated problem. How? Through our youth!
So, they started the Coachella Valley Youth Aviation Education Program. Supported by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association and local aviation groups, this school will give students the desire, drive and ability to become our future commercial pilots.
These three-week sessions will start on July 28th, teaching high school students throughout the valley all about the life of a pilot and cultivate their interest in aviation.
Normally, learning how to fly can be very expensive, but through this program, all the major costs of ground school training, flight log books, navigational charts, flight physical exams and the FAA student pilot license, will be reduced.
Our future lies in the hands of these pilots and the Coachella Valley Youth Aviation Education Program will give them room to spread their wings! For more information on this exciting program, click here.

At the first Coachella Valley Food Swap, it was all about trading, exchanging, bartering and swapping. Talk about going back to our American, Oregon Trail and homegrown roots!
This past Wednesday at Ironwood Park in Palm Desert guests at the inaugural Coachella Valley Food Swap enjoyed this cash/credit free way to experience an array of different flavors. Think about it – almost everyone is good at making at least one thing in the kitchen!
People throughout Coachella Valley brought everything from homemade ice cream, jarred peaches, pesto cream and baked goods. Each “swapper” was given a sheet of paper that the other swappers used to make their offers. Are 10 tomatoes worth three giant cinnamon rolls? We sure think so!
The fun part about this new trend is that the word about these events spreads quickly and the more people in attendance – the greater the variety of food that can be traded.
It really is an economical way to try new foods, challenge yourself in the kitchen and get to know the people in your community! The next Coachella Valley Food Swap is scheduled for June – so stay tuned because we’ll be sure to fill you in on all the details!
